At St Paul's C of E primary School, our Art curriculum provides our pupils with opportunities to develop their skills using a range of media and materials. Our pupils learn the skills of drawing, painting, printing, collage, textiles and 3D work, and are given the opportunity to explore and evaluate different creative ideas.
Pupils are introduced to a range of works from different periods and cultures, and develop knowledge of the styles and vocabulary used by famous artists. They are expected to be reflective and evaluate their work, thinking about how they could make changes and keep improving.
Our cross curricular approach also enables children to use techniques learnt in the art lessons to express themselves in every subject area and deepen their understanding. We aim to instill an interest and curiosity in a range of art, with pupils being able to express their opinions whilst respecting the opinions of others. We aim to make art lessons a space where pupils are free to experiment, with opportunities to build skills, such as careful observation, which can also be used to enhance their learning in other areas.
